York, England
October 7
Today was a full day! We found breakfast just near the Shambles Market at a place called Sandwitches. They decorated the place with all types of music and film mostly from America.
Then off we went to meet our tour guide for our walking tour. At the York Minster. Our tour lasted 2 hours and we learned a lot about York. We walked down the Shambles many times today. In years past this was the butchers street but more gently it was the inspiration for diagonal Alley from the Harry Potter books. But York has a rich history involving the Vikings, the Romans and Christianity.
We spent the rest of the day walking around York. Really a nice place to visit. We saw som Greylag Geese, the Royal geese protected by the English Crown. Dame Judi Dench’s own lane. Also the Medieval guild market and the town’s wall, mostly still intact.
We stopped at several pubs over the course of the day, having lunch at one. At 5:30, we attended Evensong at the York Minster. Probably the best way to see it!
