New Orleans to York

October 6

Our flight was quick and easy and we landed on time in London. No issues with customs and we hopped on the Heathrow express train to London’s Paddington station. From there we took the Underground (subway) to Kings Cross and finally boarded our train to York.

Our AirBnb is apartments in what was the glorious home of Joseph Rountree, a Quaker and confectionery who built a village in York for the staff that worked at his candy company, giving them housing at an affordable rent. He was committed to understanding causes of poverty in order to create a better society. Ironically, the Joseph Rountree foundation started in 1904

now claims that the firm benefited from slavery and forced labor and are trying to make amends.

We settled in and shopped across the street at the local grocery called M&S (Marks & Spencer) for some wine and other provisions.

Then we headed out to find a local pub. We found one nearby called The Three Tuns, a 17th century pub with great atmosphere and great food! We tried the sausage and mash dish and it was amazing!! A local asked to sit with us - Anthony Charles Grosvenor - and entertained us with stories and song. He claimed to be a songwriter.
