Perfect day in London!

 April 5, 2025

What a perfect day!! The weather is perfect! Despite waking at 7:20 instead of 6:30, we were able to dress, get breakfast and catch a cab to Parliament Square and make it to our tour by 8:45. Our guide Lucy was phenomenal. She told us all about the  House of Lords and the House of Commons and how they work together with the Monarchy to run the British Empire. We then went into Westminster Abbey and heard about Science corner (Charles Darwin, Steven Hawking, Isaac Newton, e.g.),

Isaac Newton

Steven Hawking (atheist)

the floor in front of the altar (the head of Jesus),
and how the coronation chair with the stone of destiny is used over the heart of Jesus. (The shape of the church) and Poets corner (Kipling, Dickens, Shakespeare, Keats, e.g) from Westminster, we walked through St James’s Park to Buckingham Palace. No Royal sightings.

We passed by Clarence House (Charles and Camilla) and St James palace (Princess Anne). Our guide then took us to Regents Street and Pall Mall where some very old shops are still in business. Lobb shoe shop, who made Queen Elizabeth’s shoes, who had staff to break them in. Lock and Co, a Milner that has been in business for since 1676. And a wine shop Berry Bros and Rudd, who provided wine to the Titanic.

Our tour guide left us at the hat shop and pointed us to the Ritz. We waltzed in and grabbed a chair at the Rivoli bar where the mixologists made us the special drink called The Twenty Six ( a version of an aperol spritz) and a gin martini with a violet flower.

We people watched a little and then made our way to the Fortnum and Mason for the Jubilees Queens Tea. Our guide suggested Queen Elizabeth’s favorite tea, Queen Anne, so we both ordered that. Meg got the Savory and I got the Classic and we shared not only for that meal, but dinner in our room later on. Finger sandwiches, scones, and either savory bites or sweet bites.

We walked back from the fabulous tea on Old Bond Street, where all of the shops with the most famous names of jewelry, watches and clothing were open for business. Once back at our hotel, we rested a minute then went to our hotel bar for a drink.

Tomorrow is another early day. Thames River cruise and Tower of London.
