London

 October 15

Today we awoke and grabbed coffee and met our tour guide on the banks of River Thames just below Big Ben, or Elizabeth tower as it should be called. It’s gleaming from its recent facelift for Queen Elizabeth’s platinum jubilee.

Elizabeth tower and our guide Michael in the foreground.

Michel, our guide talked very fast and annoyingly repeated himself but he took us around Westminster (political London as we say Capital Hill in America). We saw the parliament building, the outside of Westminster Abbey, St Margaret’s Chapel, Parliament square, 10 Downing Street and finally the Churchill war rooms.

The war rooms were interesting, especially after having seen “The Darkest Hour” about Churchill facing Hitler’s threat. But David and I got separated from one another in this underground maze and so we didn’t really see it like we should have. Instead, once we reunited, we exited and made our way to Waterloo station to catch a train to Windsor. Windsor castle, which was great to see.

Here is some of the 900 year history!

After leaving the castle, we dined at the Prince Harry restaurant

We took the train back to Waterloo station and then walked back to our place via Gordon’s wine bar. There we had a cheese board with a bottle of montelpulciano wine.

Tomorrow we’ll see Westminster Abbey on the inside then pick up our rental car and head to the Cotswolds!
