Noto, Siracusa, and Ortigia

 October 13, 2024

After a nice breakfast (impressive choices) at our hotel, we headed out for a 30 minute drive to Noto.

The archway to Noto and spectacular weather!

Three symbols are a tower, a pelican and a dog - each with special meaning for Noto

The cathedral. There are 27 Catholic Churches in this smallish town.

The dome collapsed in 1996 and was completed again in 2007

We read that onto is famous for their gelato, so we tried some!

We headed back to Siracusa and to their archaeological park.

After visiting the park, we stopped at an indoor mall that we stumbled upon and I bought a new carryon luggage (I need it for the things we’re buying!) and we ate lunch there.

Back at our hotel, we reserved a 5pm boat tour.

Waiting to board the boat

The castle built here in 1236 for Ferdinand II I think?

This rock looks like a fish jumping out of the water

The mathematical Pi symbol. Our boat captain, who we could barely understand, drove us into several of the caves.

The heart shaped cave opening

And finally after a long day, we enjoyed a sunset and had a nice dinner in Ortigia.

Our little spot on the boardwalk

Gorgeous sunset on Ortigia’s boardwalk

Leave the gun, but take the cannoli

Tomorrow we are driving to see a villa and then to Agrigento and the valley of kings
