going to tha North (in the voice of Jon Snow)
July 10, 2019
Today we got to sleep in a little, which was nice. we had breakfast, packed the car, then walked to the Castlerock Mall so that i could find a fascinator to wear to the wedding. i did, although not a perfect one with powder blue, but one in just cream color. i also bought a cream colored clutch. we stopped in the belfast city hall and went through their exhibits before getting back to our car. We headed toward a town called Ballymena and the nearby Broughshane, which was recommended. once in Ballymena, we went to a superstore, Tesco, to by provisions for our journey up north - wine, beer, cheese, crackers. we had lunch at the Thatch Inn, been around since 1630!! I finally got a fish and chips meal and it was delicious! After lunch we headed toward Portrush.
Portrush will host a golf Open championship from the 14th through 21st this month. We walked from our B&B down the beach to the Harbor bar, which had been recommended by our host Melana, who is Polish - a very strikingly beautiful woman but kind of cold. Her boyfriend is German and took care of us at breakfast-time. We luckily got two stools at the very busy bar and enjoyed talking with the bartender. He showed us how a proper Guinness is poured. They have a special tap for Guinness. They pull the tap forward for the first “forward pour” that mixes the beer with a special gas. They fill the beer to the top of the harp on the glass, then let it rest for a few minutes. Then they do a “back pour” where they push the tap back and no gas is added to complete the pour.
It started to rain hard once we were inside the bar so we waited it out. Once the rain died down we walked back to our B&B, stopping to purchase two collapsible umbrellas. Tomorrow we’ll drive to Portstewart and Derry.

A little about the Irish way of speaking. This was a room inside the Belfast city hall. |
In Belfast. Game of Thrones is really important to this city. |
