A Happy Birthday in Paris!

What a day!! We started our day by walking to the first stop of the BigBus, the Paris hop on hop off bus. The circuit was 2 hours 15 minutes and we had a great seat on top with blue skies overhead. 




We decided to stay on for the circuit plus a stop. This way we saw the whole city and then were dropped at the louvre stop. We stopped at a cafe and had a drink, some Foie Gras and onion soup. 


We then walked 3 blocks to Vilmorin, a garden and seed store that Martha Stewart frequents when in Paris. We bought some seeds to cultivate and I bought a pair of garden gloves. 




From there, we went to the Musee d’Orsay and toured the impressionist's gallery (Manet, Renoir, Monet, Lautrec, Gauguin, Van Gogh) and sculpted Rodin and many others. 








We caught the BigBus outside and rode around the loop to the Eiffel Tower. We disembarked there and headed for the Seine River boat that came with our BigBus ticket. From 6-7, we tootled down the Seine and back under clear blue skies. 





Once back at the Eiffel we headed up to the Trocadéro for our 7:30 dinner reservations at Cafe de L’Homme. I had booked it before leaving for what I thought was a Prix-Fixe menu at 60 Euro per head with a glass of champagne. We were seated on a terrace overlooking the Eiffel Tower - perfect for dining and viewing the evening sparkles! Just what I was hoping for. Turns out the 60 Euros was just for the table and the champagne! The menu was a La carte. We decided to stay because - ok - it’s my birthday. 



Soon a party of five plus a griffin dog, Simon, sat next to us. The wait staff suddenly started flurrying around and our waiter told us that the dog owner was the great-great-great-granddaughter of Gustav Eiffel himself and the Japanese woman with her (who spoke French) was a Japanese celebrity. She had an assistant? With her that never stopped filming her and the conversation, food, wine and eventually us when they sang happy birthday to me! lol! We still do not know their names. But it was a memorable birthday for sure!!






Our meal was absolutely divine! I had a fish almondine and a cauliflower dish. Meg had veal and vegetables. It was all very delicious! 

Tomorrow we have tickets to the Louvre and Notre Dame.

    Well, what a fabulous birthday!!!! Couldn't get much better than that! Can't wait to hear about the Louvre and Notre Dame tomorrow!

 April 5, 2025 What a perfect day!! The weather is perfect! Despite waking at 7:20 instead of 6:30, we were able to dress, get breakfast and catch a cab to Parliament Square and make it to our tour by 8:45. Our guide Lucy was phenomenal. She told us all about the  House of Lords and the House of Commons and how they work together with the Monarchy to run the British Empire. We then went into Westminster Abbey and heard about Science corner (Charles Darwin, Steven Hawking, Isaac Newton, e.g.), Isaac Newton Steven Hawking (atheist) the floor in front of the altar (the head of Jesus), and how the coronation chair with the stone of destiny is used over the heart of Jesus. London and Paris, here we come!!

 April 3-4 Our flight from New Orleans took off just before 10 pm and we arrived safely at Heathrow at 12:45pm (<9 hours). Our luggage was delayed due to some mechanical issues but we weren’t delayed by any customs - just breezed right through. We caught the Heathrow Express to Paddington station. Instead of taking a taxi from there to our hotel, we took the underground to Marble Arch which was just around the corner from our hotel, The Cumberland. Maneuvering our luggage through the underground was a mistake! Lots of stairs! People were so nice though and offered to help us with our suitcases. Emily in Paris tour

 April 12 Today was another great day!! We traveled via cab to the Hotel Plaza Athenee to meet our tour group for Sex in the City/Emily in Paris tour. We were a little early so we were allowed in the hotel while we waited. At 10 no one had showed up, which we found concerning. Finally a young woman, Nari, with exotic features and silver and diamond studded finger tips showed up. Palms and Easter Lillie’s too Hotel plaza Athenee Nari our guide, told us about the role of the hotel in both Sex and the city and Emily in Paris, both with the same producer and how Emily in some cases mirrors Carrie Bradshaw.
